A St. Louisan’s Guide to Keeping Your Roof Shipshape

Ahoy there, fellow St. Louisans! As an ace roofer in St Louis, we know a thing or two about keeping roofs in tip-top shape. And let’s be honest, in the Gateway to the West, we’ve got some weather that can really put our roofs to the test. So, let’s dive right in and make sure your roof is as sturdy as the Arch!

1. Keep an Eye on the Sky (and Your Roof!)

Regular Inspections

In St. Louis, we get everything from thunderstorms to snow. Don’t wait for a leak to tell you something’s wrong. At least twice a year, do a good ol’ inspection. Look for loose or missing shingles, and check if any are cracked or buckling.

After the Storm

After a big storm, especially those Midwestern hailstorms, take a gander at your roof or call in a professional to make sure everything’s still intact.

2. Cleanliness is Next to Roofliness

Gutter Cleaning

Folks, keep those gutters clean! In the fall, when the leaves are dropping like hot toasted ravioli, make sure they’re not clogging up your gutters. This helps prevent water from backing up and causing rot.

Moss and Algae

We’ve got some humid summers, and that can mean moss and algae. Keep an eye out, and if you see any, it’s time for a cleaning. A mix of 50% water and 50% bleach sprayed on the affected area should do the trick.

3. Ventilation and Insulation: A Dynamic Duo

Make sure your attic is well ventilated and insulated. This helps prevent ice dams in the winter, which are as unwelcome as a Cubs fan at a Cardinals game (just kidding, we love everyone in St. Louis!).

4. Trim Those Trees

Got trees hanging over your roof? Trim ‘em back. This helps prevent leaves from piling up on the roof and keeps branches from damaging shingles during a storm.

5. When in Doubt, Call a Pro

Sometimes you need to call in the cavalry. If you’re not sure what’s going on up there, or if you know there’s a problem but don’t have the know-how or tools to fix it, call a local roofing professional.

6. Embrace the St. Louis Spirit

We St. Louisans are known for our community spirit. Talk to your neighbors and share tips. Maybe even team up for a neighborhood roof inspection day. After all, a neighborhood with good roofs is a happy neighborhood.

So there you have it, my St. Louis compatriots! Keep your roof healthy, and it’ll keep you and your family safe through all the weather our beloved city throws at us. Stay sturdy!
